Why marketing services is different to marketing products

The obvious difference between product and service marketing is that products are tangible, and services are intangible. In my opinion products would be easier to market as they can be displayed, demonstrated and the customer can understand it and decide easier whether the product is worth the money or not. Services, being intangible, can be harder to show value. You can’t see or touch a service. Often, then, the goal of marketing services is to create good relationships with your target audience, developing and building trust. To promote a service you would do it in a different way to a product, in my eyes. I feel like there is push for more promotion in a service as the customer doesn’t really get to use the service. What I would do to promote it would be be the feedback I receive. I would then use this in my favour to promote the service. I personally would rather promote a product as it in in front of you and you can show, physically, the attributes it has got to offer. Another difference in service and product would be the chance customize the service. While products are designed, built and delivered to a range of customers ‘as standard’, services can be tweaked and customized depending on the needs or wants of customers. Your service marketing strategy should reflect this by highlighting the personal touch you provide or how you listen to your customers’ needs.
